July 23, 2024

Lethbridge, AB

Under the Lights is excited to announce Jaxon Filipenko as the Pitching Coach of the Lethbridge Longhorns Academy. Jaxon grew up in Lethbridge Alberta where he played Little League and American Legion baseball. Winning 6 Provincial championships and 1 National championship with the Southwest all-stars, Jaxon grew a true passion for the game. In his senior year of high school Jaxon moved out to Vauxhall to play for the Vauxhall Jets Baseball Academy. Following his graduation year of high school, he went down south to play 1 year of college baseball with The Williston State Tetons in North Dakota as a Pitcher.

Jaxon has spent the past 2 summers coaching the Lethbridge Lakers American Legion baseball team primarily as the pitching coach. After winning a provincial championship in the first season as a coach he knew he wanted to help players improve and better knowledge of themselves on and off the field around the game of baseball. He is currently enrolled in a combined degree of Kinesiology Education and Psychology at the University of Lethbridge.

Josh Burgmann, Program Director of the organization commented on the hiring, “We are thrilled to bring Jaxon on board as the new Pitching Coach for the Lethbridge Longhorns. Jaxon has gone through the Academy process during his time at the Vauxhall Baseball Academy, which we felt was very valuable for his new position. Excited to bring another coach on board that really values the development process and I think our pitchers are going to really benefit under Flips leadership.,”

Here is what new Pitching Coach, Jaxon Filipenko, had to say about his new role, “I cannot wait to get started with the Longhorns Program. I am excited to give back the knowledge I have gained from such great personal and coach’s from my time as a player. The ins and outs of defining what truly makes a great pitcher on and off the field is something I will try to help pursue with each player. I am extremely thankful to Josh and Kevin for the opportunity given to me to coach this great up and coming program!”

Jaxon will be working hand in hand with Program Director Josh Burgmann with the pitchers, he will be able to learn and gain knowledge from Josh’s extensive pitching career and his knowledge of the art of pitching. Pitchers will be able to learn from both Josh and Jaxon in order to get the most out of their opportunities.
